According to Internet World Statistics there are more than 6.7 billion people from all regions of the world using the internet, as listed in their 2009 Usage and Population Statistics report.

It stands to reason that the vast majority of these users are online looking for information. The sheer numbers indicate that times have never been better for entrepreneurs looking to make a living by operating an online business.

This unquenchable thirst for knowledge (information) has brought forth a huge opportunity.

Information products are in demand, have been and will continue to be well into the future. This demand has given rise to what is called the infopreneur, people who create and / or market information.

Some may think this to be a new media thing, but the history of information marketing is quite long. Traditional books and newspapers for example, are a part of the legacy.

Within the information marketing industry are two types of products, the physical products like books, audio tapes, CDs and DVDs and those products that are digital in nature, like eBooks, video, and slides.

The beauty of this industry lies in it’s raw material, your knowledge.

Everyone has at least 2 or 3 topics that they are very knowledgeable about. On those topics, your level of knowledge is far greater than most other people you’ll encounter.

It’s about leveraging what you know.

Digital products are the easiest to manufacture and the most profitable, as you need only create the product once. This is a bonus benefit that makes this a very attractive business model.

Identify a niche, digitize your knowledge through copywriting, and market your product. The entire manufacturing model comes from within and each product will be a result of your research into what problems you can solve for your readers and other users of the internet.

Other benefits of information marketing;

Operate this business from anywhere in the world

The investment to get started is minimal, mainly your time.

This does not require a lot of equipment

There is little and sometimes no interaction with the buyer

No packaging or shipping is required

The earning potential has a very positive upside

Let’s look at this business model a little closer.

Identifying Your Market

One of the key elements to developing a successful product is identifying exactly what it is that people are having a problem with.

What are they talking about and how do you find out about it?

There are a couple of answers to this question.

Bloggers can simply ask their readers for feedback, through a series of surveys or questions.

However, your main approach to this should be research. Tools like Google Trends and Google Insights are very good for researching the latest trends and search terms. There are a host of other tools as well.

Investment

Like any business venture, you’ll have to put a little skin in the game, but with Information Marketing there really is a minimal cost for getting started. If you are a blogger, you already have much of what is required, a computer system and a desire to produce content.

A few additional software tools to assist with the production of high quality output and to make the process easier than it already is will not be major setbacks financially.

One of your largest investments by far will be time. With an already vigorous schedule, you will need to find time to perform research and go into production mode.

Not to be overlooked is the marketing aspect of the product itself. It is important to invest in marketing so that a positive launch and some momentum can be gained. Overlooking this key element could be a crucial mistake. Remember, you have not had to invest much money into product development so don’t skimp on the marketing.

Lastly, do not forget the single largest investment of this or any business, you. Invest in your continued education by reading books, magazines or taking courses on whatever topics that interest you. The more knowledge you have the more of an authority you can become. This knowledge can be converted into information products, helping to boost your business to new heights.

Return on Investment

As previously mentioned the earning potential for a valuable high quality product is very good, particularly when you consider what you invested to bring this to the marketplace.

Say you invested 25 hours generating an eBook over a 2-week period. This product has the potential to generate substantial amounts of money for you now and years into the future. That 25 hour investment could still be paying off years from now.

Product Delivery

Digital products are delivered via a simple download. No packaging, postage or trips to the post office and delivery is instant. In this digital age people want what they want now and instant downloads are a great feature for the seller and buyer alike. The buyer pays and downloads their product, while the seller’s bank account receives a deposit. It really doesn’t get any easier than this.

Buyer loyalty

Since your buyer was completely happy with the product you delivered, finding real value and problem solving solutions, they have now developed a respect for you as a person.

They will become loyal customers of yours for years to come. Whenever they are in need of advice on a topic you cover, it will be you that they will turn to for help or answers. This establishes you as an authority figure, one who is both trusted and respected.

As a business, Information Marketing could change your life. But just as all others, you must work a plan and a strategy for a prolonged period of time.

Starting with no products or customers, just a desire to go out there and research what it is that potential customers want, then present this to them in a compelling fashion.

This is what will allow you to build a customer base and continued income for the future.

On today’s internet this is a valuable skill to have.

If you are a blogger you should be excited about the upcoming opportunities to start, expand or otherwise enhance your business. Even the casual blogger who simply blogs for the fun of it, will have to consider converting to a profitable business model.

With the world economy continuing to sputter along, people have turned to the internet in droves, hoping to carve out some means of income to help them sustain their quality of life. When jobs are lost it provides a serious need to offset that loss.

The internet of today contains everything one could possibly hope for, in terms of learning how to start and grow an online business. Seasoned veterans and newbies alike can find a near unlimited supply of valuable information that will enhance their careers.

Consider this, the ranks of professional bloggers remains relatively small in comparison to the millions of internet users found online at any given hour of the day. By professional blogger, I mean those who make their entire income from blogging and it’s associated activities.

One reason the number remains low is the fact that blogging is intensive, hard work. It is more than just churning out articles and going to the bank. Pro bloggers have to wear many hats and are truly dedicated to the craft.

This is where the excitement comes in. You see, the ranks of pro bloggers is about to expand in the coming months and years. Many will set out to join the trailblazers of this profession who have already established the business model to follow. A business model that has evolved into what it is today.

It’s no longer just about selling advertising space and collecting Adsense checks from Google. Let’s face it; you can’t live off of the income from the sidebars alone.

Content delivery systems are evolving before your eyes. Next generation tools have been incorporated as audio and video are now part of the production process. Blogs are becoming more in line with entertainment outlets. What a way to learn a craft.

Today’s blogging business model is a direct product of the pro bloggers who have recognized the advancements in technology and how to incorporate these tools into what you see today. This is why they have become successful, and they deserve it for their hard work and dedication.

Want to blog your way to success? It won’t be easy, but it can be done with the drive and dedication used by any professional in any business. If you have that drive and commitment, you can reach your goals.

The world of pro blogging is rapidly changing and you should be excited about what lies ahead. It’s a great time to get started with the enormous amount of educational content available to you.

As mentioned in one of my previous post, you will need a blueprint to begin. Get a free copy of the 6-Figure Blogger Blueprint or the Blog Profits Blueprint. One must be truly dedicated and committed to make money online.

Many blogs were started for the fun of it, a means of expressing whatever the owner decided they wanted to blog about. Many of these bloggers had no intention of making money online, but through their dedication and eventual popularity, have come to make really serious money online.

Others have from day one, set out to turn a profit. However, the vast majority of this group has failed to reach their goal. There are many contributing factors for these failures, but I will cover 20 MAJOR reasons for their demise.

1.  Lack of knowledge – Starting out on your own with no guidance and no real knowledge of how successful blogs reached their status is a recipe for failure. You simply will not last long enough to figure out all that you need to know to become a successful and profitable blogger. The lack of measurable progress will lead to an eventual lack of motivation, which leads to another abandoned website. You must seek out an educational source or mentor to keep you on a well developed and proven plan.

2.  Lack of focus – Without this key ingredient, you’ll struggle from day one. All of the knowledge in the world will not save you from yourself if you cannot master the art of focusing. Remove distractions from your environment when you are working on your content production or studying a lesson to enhance your skills. Set aside a set time period to blog and let your family members know that you are “working” and would prefer to not be disturbed. Be certain to follow-up exactly where you left off, jumping from subject to subject leaves you with many unfinished projects.

3.  Lack of valuable content – Without valuable content you will fail to attract or keep regular readers on your blog site. Your posts must provide something of value to your audience. Solve a problem, provide some helpful tips or educate the reader about the subject matter you have decided to present. Make your content easy to read. Long paragraphs are a turn-off, as people generally have short attention spans. Remember, it’s a blog post not a novel.

4.  Poor Blog Structure – As a new blogger, you must guard against the temptation to place too many bells and whistles on your site. It’s not a technology showcase. Plastering your blog with banners, widgets and counters only serve to distract your reader from the content you worked so hard to produce. These elements are to be strategically placed. Research the layout of the highly successful blogs as a guide.

5.  Poor theme selection - There are hundreds of blog themes available for usage (many free) and a big mistake is to choose one of the most popular themes available. Do you really want your blog to look like hundreds of others? The idea is to stand out from the crowd. If you have money to invest, have a theme customized or purchase one that serves your purpose without being in heavy circulation.

6.  Sporadic post schedule - People who visit your blog will come to expect something new on every visit. Try to post daily if at all possible, but minimally 3 times each week. Be aware that the frequency of new post you began with is what you need to maintain. Your visitors will not return to see the same post day after day, they will simply go elsewhere.

7.  Unrealistic expectations - Blogging is hard work, make no mistake. It’s a long-term project with a continual learning aspect. You will not write your way to riches in a few short months. The top bloggers have been dedicated to their craft for years, and you will have to do the same. Disillusionment may attempt to creep in occasionally but this is something you’ll have to work through.

8.  Lack of originality - It is a challenge to produce fresh content on a daily basis and sooner rather than later, you’ll find that you are covering the same topics as others, this is inevitable. What you cannot do is copy or otherwise produce the same content. Put your stamp on the subject by adding your personality to the content. Everyone does not have the same writing style, so let your particular brand of writing show through.

9.  Lack of RSS feed - Really simple syndication is a means by which you can receive blog content without actually visiting the website. You can read my article on the subject here. This is a critical tool for your blog because readers who subscribe via your RSS feed will be notified each time you have a new post, which is important for you traffic building efforts. You may subscribe for free updates to this blog here.

10. Lack of social interaction - No blog will run solo and draw readers, so it is important that you reach out and let people know what you and your blog are all about. Twitter and Facebook, to name but two, are places you need to join and network with others. Many opportunities may come your way as a result of this interaction with others.

11. No outbound links to other blogs - Often during the course of writing content, you will have to make reference to other sources of relevant information. When this occurs you should link to the source you are referencing, which provides a convenient 1-click maneuver for your reader if they choose to visit the other site. Share a little “link love” when appropriate.

12. Too broad of a focus – Your blog subject matter should be narrowed to a specific niche. Trying to cover a wide range of topics means that your readers have no idea what to expect when they visit your blog. Look at you blog as a specialty shop instead of a Walmart.

13. Promoting your blog too early – When you first launch your blog you are excited and may be tempted to tell the world to come see it. But come see what? If you only have a handful of articles and only post once or twice weekly, there is just not much there to see. Build up you content with a good number of articles (at least 30) before heavily advertising. When your traffic comes, you must have something of value for them to read.

14. No or few inbound links - Your blog should have a good number of inbound links from a variety of other sites. If you are going to make it on the “web”, you’ll need more than a single strand. This is why it is important to network and interact with other bloggers, even the ones in your niche that you see as competitors. No successful blog is an island.

15. Too much design time – Many new bloggers spend far too much time designing and window dressing their blogs. The actual content on your blog is much more important than all the pretty colors and fancy widgets. People want to learn something or obtain the ability to solve a problem, thing that bring value to their lives.

16. Failure to optimize for search engines - Search engine optimization (SEO) is very important, as it allows people searching the internet to find your site according to subjects that you write about. The goal is to have your blog ranked on the first page of Google or any other search engine. This can drive massive amounts of traffic to you site.

17. Inability to stay on topic - This can be one of the greatest turn-offs for any reader, as they will have no ideas what you are trying to convey. Switching from one topic to another comes across as aimlessly rambling on with no real purpose. Nothing can be more boring than this.

18. Lack of attention given to comments - When someone leaves a comment on your blog, they are telling you what their opinion is about what you have presented. Both negative and positive comments are very valuable and you should determine if what the reader has said has merit. This could help you make an adjustment that may pay off later.

19. Failure to check spam comments - Many blogs have plugins that pick off what they consider to be spam. In fact, it is a must that you employ one of these tools. The mistake that many bloggers make is assuming that every comment picked off by the plugin is really spam. Much like your email, mistakes are made and there could be something of real value placed in the folder. Check that comments spam folder and unspam legitimate comments. I have often found positive comments comingled with the spam.

20. Failure to pay any attention to the above - Okay, I cheated on the 20th reason, but you get the idea. In reality, there are a couple hundred reasons why most bloggers fail to make money, including the selection of your products.

Let’s be clear, if you don’t have the basic fundamentals down you are doomed to failure from day one. This is a tough business to begin with and you will need every advantage you can find to become successful. Just be patient and observe good blogging practices, as someday you will suddenly be surprised when things start to become more favorable for you and your efforts.

Now I have taken enough of your time for now, get back to your blog and continue the journey that will surely reward you in time.

Happy blogging!

Long established companies closing down and going out of business. Stocks tumbling off the board. Bank failures all over the globe. Start an online business now? Who in the world would start a business during a time like this, when there is so much bad news regarding the economy and business failures?

You, if you’re smart. That’s right; this is a great time to start an online business so that you can position yourself for the future. Forget about the offline business world and the wreckage it has become for a moment. The fact of the matter is this; online businesses are rolling along at a pretty good clip.

The Census Bureau of the Department of Commerce reports steady increases in e-commerce sales since the 4th quarter of 1999, and there seems to be no end in sight. When the offline business world falters, e-commerce has picked up the slack and often increases. There seems to be no recession online.

Consider this, with all of the layoffs and job losses, many people will turn to the internet in an effort to create a job for themselves. This means that even more activity will occur, thereby increasing online business sales.

Those who have come to launch new online careers will need to learn how to navigate the internet, what niche to concentrate on and what tools and techniques will assist them in building their businesses. The new online entrepreneur has a problem. How does he or she get from A to Z? This means that information and technology products are, and will continue to be, in high demand.

But how can you be successful during these tough economic times?

During any economic downturn people will close those purses and wallets, spending much more carefully than they normally would. This further drives the cost of goods and products down. It causes consumers to really shop around for anything they plan to buy, and the best buys will always be online. This is because the online stores don’t have the brick and mortar shops that require high monthly rents or lease payments, so goods can be sold at a less expensive price. You can also shop from the comfort of your own home, saving on the cost of gasoline. Let’s be clear, times are tough and you need to save as much money as possible.

You can succeed during these tough times by starting your own online business. Become an affiliate marketer, technical instructor or a copywriter. If you are very knowledgeable about a particular subject, Become a Blogger and produce articles about your subject. Share your knowledge, produce information products and tap into this multi-billion dollar marketplace. The marketplace will be busy and there will be plenty of competition, but with the right tools and training you can make money online.

Just think, when the economy recovers (mid to late 2010 by many economist) you will have already received much of the training required to succeed and will be taking advantage of the latest tools and techniques for generating an income. Your online career will be really taking off after some hard work and dedication.

Online business, as you have seen by the numbers, is one of the fastest growing segments of the economy and it appears that this trend will continue for some time to come. Could this level of growth stop at some point? It could and probably will level off somewhere down the line. Will e-commerce die off and go away? Most likely not. This is the future, which is why starting an online business in a down economy during 2009 is a very good idea.

Many of those lost jobs will not be coming back which is why online business opportunities will increase.

The time is now to start your future!

Blogging for profit is the desire of many people who have launched blogs, even some who didn’t set out with this goal in mind. No matter your original motivation, you at some point must consider the option and possibility of actually making money while doing something you absolutely enjoy. Tough choice huh?

The profit component of this equation is really not far beyond the reach of the average person with average intelligence. For some reason people think you have to be in the genius class to do anything associated with computers and this is just not true. Sure, you have to educate yourself about what you are doing, but this is not at all beyond you if you dedicate yourself to succeeding and applying what you learn along the way.

I must caution you however, no matter what books you read or courses you take, the biggest obstacle to your success will be you. If you fail to act upon the knowledge gained, you’ll be just another also-ran.

One of the very first things you must take action on is a long-term plan or blueprint for your business. And yes, blogging for profit is a business. Without a blueprint to follow you’ll fall into the trap of having expectations that are unrealistic. Like expecting your blog to draw a lot of traffic just because it looks pretty. You’re caught up in the newness of the site and the design aspects so when your readership hasn’t grown as fast as you thought, a little discontent creeps in.

It’s been months now and you were looking for that traffic so you can start making money; after all, you haven’t made a dime. But don’t let this disappointment taint your desire to continue blogging. This is where most abandon the trail.

This is a direct result of a failure to get off on the right foot by following a plan. If you want to make money online you must follow a plan and stick to it. This is how the successful bloggers have done it. They didn’t just launch a blog and start going to the bank; they worked hard and long building their businesses.

Bloggers like David Risley, Yaro Starak, and John Chow (to name but a few) are professional bloggers who have reached considerable levels of success with their blogs and you can bet they had a strategically laid out plan, a blueprint.

Success will not come overnight under any circumstance, but without some form of guidance, you’ll be feeling around in the dark for quite some time. Eventually you’ll give up the chase having reaped no reward.

The Blog Profits Blueprint is just what the doctor ordered. More than 50 pages of highly valuable information provided by Yaro Starak, a Professional Blogger who has accomplished a level of success that any blogger would be happy to attain.

In this free blueprint every aspect of blogging for profits is covered.

One of the keys to the equation is a large readership. The more traffic you have the greater your chances of landing advertisers and regular readers, a critical ingredient if you are to become successful. Gone are the days when a great idea and a nice writing style lead to a highly successful business. With the number of blog launches each day adding to the competition, you have to tow the line and stand out from the crowd.

You have to do many things to get your blog to profitability and having techniques, strategies and tools documented in one place with directions on how and when to use them is a tremendous resource to have.

In the Blog Profits Blueprint you will learn how blogs make money, how to choose your topic, how to create “Pillar” content, traffic strategies and much, much more. This is a comprehensive guide that provides a blogging business plan that will lead you to success.

If you are serious about a career in blogging you need to know how to reach your destination. Remember this; if you don’t know where you’re going, no one’s going with you.

What an exciting time in your life. Eh, what? Not yet? So you’re not down with this dynamic electronic medium just yet. Fear not, if you can fog a mirror you can begin a new career in blogging. Free step-by-step videos will have you off and running in no time.

For those of you who have a blog up and running and are now wondering how you can easily begin the process of making some money, you should strongly consider affiliate marketing. No, you will not be filthy rich this year or next following this path, but you can without a doubt earn some really decent money.

There are bloggers who do this full-time and make six-figure incomes, but they did not arrive there overnight. Like any business, it takes dedication and hard work to build your foundation into a solid and profitable business model and affiliate marketing is a great way to start monetizing your blog site. Here is an article I wrote recently on Affiliate Marketing Income.

As an affiliate, you will simply market the products of a merchant. When your site visitor clicks through and makes a purchase, you will be paid a commission for the referral, and why not. If you had not made the recommendation, the sale would not have occurred.

Ask yourself how many times you have told your friends, family and even total strangers about a product or service that you really felt good about. You were excited to tell them because you know they need this in their life and should not miss this opportunity. Now ask yourself how many times the movie theater, athletic shoe manufacturer or electronic store called you to give you a percentage of the sale you made for them. Interesting huh? This is no different; it’s just electronic and highly efficient.

So you have a website up and running and you blog about your favorite past time, biking. You did not set out to make money; it was all fun and passion. But why not add a few related products to your site that your readers can benefit from. Sure, you could just tell them about the gel-filled seat that allows you to ride for more miles than you ever thought possible. You know this is something that they absolutely need to take a look at. Well, show it to them on your site and for every one that is sold, you get paid. This is what you call win-win-win. Your reader, the seat vendor and you, everyone is happy about this transaction.

There are also other advantages to monetizing your website. Consider these completely easy, hands-off benefits;

1.  No payments to process or bookkeeping to maintain

2.  No products to develop or inventory to stock

3.  No shipping and handling to deal with

4.  No out of pocket money

5.  No returns or complaints in the pipeline

6.  No membership fees to sign-up and get started

7.  No store hours to keep, your site works 24/7

Now does it get any better than that? This almost becomes a no-brainer.

How to Get Started in Affiliate Marketing

First and foremost, do a bit of research and educate yourself about this sector of online business. This will give you a distinct advantage over many others who simply jump in and attempt to figure everything out on their own. The vast majority of what you need to know can be obtained online for free.

Go slow and avoid being overwhelmed with information. Concentrate on one source of information at a time before moving on to another. Do NOT buy any ebooks or sign-up for any paid courses just yet. You must first determine two things, your willingness to get into this market and your skill level. If you determine that this is something that you really want to do and you are feeling technically challenged, there are many legitimate sources of guidance just a click away. I will cover some of these in an upcoming article.

Once you’ve obtained the basic knowledge of how this industry functions, and you are ready to get started, take action. This is where most people fail. This is why it is important to concentrate on one source at a time to avoid “analysis paralysis”. When you overload yourself you become confused and uncertain about your next step, so you continue to analyze everything, while taking no action.

So, go ahead and do some research, make a decision and get ready to move forward with your blogging career.

In the world of marketing you may have heard the term “multiple streams of income”. This is often used as a way to describe an ideal situation for your business model. When money is not flowing in from one source, it comes in from another therefore; the more income streams the better. Collectively they can bring you a pretty decent income.

If you surf the internet looking for this term, you will find many, many listings. Everyone has a formula for accomplishing this task it seems, and the “How-To” books will fill a decent size bookcase.

For many entrepreneurs, creating these income streams online or offline is a way of securing themselves as well as their businesses in the future. It is also believed that this will save them from the so-called famine effect in the business industry. Affiliate marketing is a very good example of this business model. Set up multiple affiliate accounts and build them to success so that if one income diminishes or vanishes altogether, you still have others to carry you through while replacing what has fallen away. This surely beats the heck out of losing your sole source of money, leaving you with nothing on the horizon but bankruptcy and hopelessness.

Ask the most successful online entrepreneurs, and you will discover that they have established multiple streams of income and have been doing this for years. I heard someone say that this is risky, because there is no fixed salary like a job. Well, unlike a job with a fixed salary, there is no fixed salary cap and we all know how quickly that fixed salary can become broken in this day and age. Now if you have a job and you are happy, great. That’s what this country was built on, but you cannot deny the success of this business model.

Many business people have attested that the very first thing you must do in creating multiple streams of income is to assess or evaluate your resources. Start by assessing yourself first. Jot down your answers to the following questions: What are the talents, strengths and abilities that you possess? Are you gifted with excellent and creative writing skills? Can you do well in the sales arena? Are you a good communicator? Do you have an artistic skill or unique ability that others don’t have? These answers will determine the type of business that will place you in a position to excel.

Next, have a look around you and write down your assets and physical resources such as a computer system, color printer, scanner, digital camera, cell phone, CD and/or DVD burner, mass digital storage device and commonly used productivity software packages. Write them all down as they will be used as resources. Consider your friends and family. Find out what they possess that you have access to. Remember, no man (or woman) is an island. You can use the talents, abilities, knowledge and resources of everyone you know. Hey, you’re trying to carve out a living here right?

This is basically the initial step if you want to create multiple income streams. If you are already a webmaster or a site owner, you have a definitive edge. Why not join an affiliate marketing business to help you gain extra income from your very own website?

Being involved with affiliate marketing is one of the most desirable ways to make money online. One reason for this is that the affiliate programs come in various shapes and forms. There are many of these programs that you can sign-up with and start making money right away by promoting and reselling a wide variety of products. Â That brings me to one of the most attractive parts of the business. You choose to promote and sell what you want to from thousands of products. There is also an array of training products for the newbies entering the marketplace, as these companies are dedicated to your success. After all, if you are not successful, neither are they. Most products are categorized so that the appropriate product for your niche or website is easily found. Additionally, you get to research each product before you decide on whether it is something that you would promote.

Doing this either part time or full time is an excellent way to create multiple income streams by means of promoting products and services from web merchants. Here, you can make money without investing big bucks in making your own product and without worrying about book keeping, customer support and ecommerce. All you have to do is to promote and resell the products and services on your site and pass on potential customers to the merchant’s site. There is no inventory to maintain, no outlay of upfront monies on your part or anything of the kind.

In affiliate marketing, it is advisable to promote multiple merchants on your site so that your visitors will have a variety of destinations to choose from. Using multiple merchants in the same site or niche means only one thing – you have multiple streams of affiliate income. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this business strategy because this is one of the best ways to protect your business and expand your horizons.

Look, you are in total control, choose only those affiliate programs that interest you so that you can effectively advertise and promote them. Don’t ever be tempted into signing up for numerous affiliate programs in the hope that one of them will bring income. Select wisely and do not get involved with promoting and selling products you know nothing about. Go with what fits your enthusiasm; your passion can capture your client and guide him or her to your affiliate link.

You should also work toward bringing a level of stability to your multiple streams of income. You can accomplish this by embracing some strategies that make you feel good about the product. Be ethical. Ask yourself if this is something you would want to be associated with and be mindful that every product is not a winner.

If you are even remotely interested in making money on the internet, you should do your due diligence and research the affiliate marketing industry. Many fortunes have been made utilizing this business model and while you may not become a millionaire, you can certainly generate a really decent income without investing in actual products. Leave the development to someone else, but get your slice of the pie while showing that entrepreneurial spirit.
