Adjusting to Stay On Target
By
As the year winds down many will look forward to a new beginning once the calendar flips and January arrives. There is something refreshing about the current year expiring and a new year coming in.
We tend to think that great opportunities arrive with the New Year, one where we can suddenly cast off any failures and deficiencies of the past and start anew.
But great opportunities are not tied to the calendar; they are tied to our planning and the execution of that plan.
Most bloggers set out with a goal in mind, like establishing an online business and building it into a full-time sustainable income, or building an online community to share your interest. Whatever that goal is, there must be some measurable points within the plan to keep us focused and on target.
I, like many others, have looked upon my plan, evaluated my progress and identified areas where adjustments will keep me on target. But rather than await the arrival of the new year, I have documented the needed adjustments and began the process now.
Veteran bloggers have likely done this many times. As a blogger in the final quarter of the first year it is critical to evaluate my progress and narrow that focus to an even finer point now.
When I started, I knew that blogging was something that I would continue for many years to come so I felt it was important to get started and adjust as time permitted. Thus far, blogging has been very satisfying and I am excited about the next level that lies ahead.
In an upcoming series I will be covering some “lessons learned” in hopes of smoothing the road for others with less time on the keyboard.
Hindsight being 20/20, there are things that I certainly would have done differently but I am grateful for the past experience nonetheless.
In blogging, everyone’s early life will be different in many ways, but there are plenty of things that can be shared that are of great benefit to one’s long-term career.
Keep Blogging!

People like fresh starts – It’s exciting, it feels like a new opportunity, there is a chance to do one better than last year and the thought of doing that gets you up and raring to go!
We need to realise though that it takes hard work and we really need to focus!
You made a great point of starting NOW than say right at the end of this month/start of next year. Chris Brogan released a video recently saying bloggers should be taking a lot more action now if they want to get ahead as most blogs/businesses are starting to wind down for the holiday season.
Now is a great time more than ever to start making the big things happen, than 2-3 weeks from now.
