How Do You Create Unique and Original Content?
By
In the blogosphere content is the currency of success. All bloggers strive to produce content that is both unique and original. But with such a crowded field, how do you accomplish this goal? After all, it’s most difficult to come up with something that hasn’t been written about before.
It seems to me that producing original content has to come from your own personal experiences and delivery approach. You must interject your style of writing to a point where the reader can practically hear you speaking.
Realizing that not every article you publish will be a groundbreaker; you can at least be consistent in your “voice”. That’s why it’s so important to be yourself because that is where much of your originality lies, within you.
Could it be that we bloggers sometimes over think what we want to produce, thereby second guessing ourselves and creating a self-inflicted case of writer’s block?
Perhaps it’s best to just speak to the keyboard and just put it out there. How better to transform your thoughts to actual content?
I’ve given this some serious thought lately and will share some those thoughts on creating unique and original content with you.
Plan ahead
Producing a fresh blog post while under the pressure of limited time will just about always create a clash of ideas and introduce a level of quality that you’ll find to be sub-par for your standards. Keep a log of ideas that you can use to generate content.
When time allows, write several articles and place them in a queue for that point in time when you need it on short notice. See Blog Content -“ How to Post Daily Without Posting Daily”.
Know your stuff
The goal is to produce something unique and original and there is nothing more unique than an article full of holes because you failed to do your homework. Not quite what we wanted.
If you are a little cloudy on a particular point, best do some more research to be sure you are on solid footing. You do not want any of those “gotcha” moments.
Be yourself
Sounds simple enough, but I think we sometimes try too hard which takes you away from your original personality. Let things flow naturally and don’t worry about being the greatest blogger ever.
Be independent
There is always the temptation of writing about the hottest topics of the day, and rightfully so since this is what most are interested in reading, but we should find a way to show our own independent viewpoints.
I’ve sometimes moved away from topics because I couldn’t find a way to present them in a fashion that differed from others or had a different point of view. I don’t want to be a playback machine.
Be open-minded
While writing your post keep an open mind about other points of view. This can sometimes lead to additional content to round out the article.
Stake out a position
Forget about trying to write to please everyone, take a stand and speak your own mind. Sure, they’ll be those who will disagree with your position on a particular subject, but they will at least respect you for your opinion.
Those who don’t respect you will likely not read your entire post anyway.
Find the untapped area
There are many topics that are covered quite a bit, but some research will often uncover an angle of that topic that has not been covered. Going that extra step can provide you with a unique perspective on a well known topic.
Others will say “how come I didn’t think of that?” The truth is, you didn’t think of it either, you just did more work than the others.
Get that hot idea posted
For some strange reason, many of your best ideas will come at the most inconvenient time, like 3:30am when you should be sleeping.
I keep a pad and pen at bedside (or wherever I go for that matter) to jot down those hot ideas. These should be written and posted as soon as possible before someone else beats you to the punch.
Problem solving
This is by far one of the best ways to stand out and produce unique and original content, particularly for new products or technologies. While others are having difficulties and trying to figure things out, if you can provide a valuable solution your article will be highly successful.
These were some of my thoughts on unique and original content. I’d be most interested to hear yours.
What are your thoughts on producing unique and original content?

I have found that trying no to believe that everyone has already written everything about my niche is the hardest. Also, I have decided to take a stand and not fall into all the other Zen-like lifestyle design blogs out there. So, I’m going to approach lifestyle design from a more pragmatic and rational point of view. I feel this is a better representation of who I am anyway.
Keep up the great blog!

Nice article. For some reason I can never do the paper and pencil thing. They are never there when I want them.
I have a few blogs, and I am always amazed when the articles which I find tedious to write are the one’s that my readers will say are “unique”.
I think a unique article really only needs 1 or 2 things that are “different”. Most people, I believe, just skim, and get excited when they read something that they never heard before.
On the other hand, if you are a “real” writer then of course everything in your post has to have a unique feel.
I am subscribing to this blog. Thank you.

I hear you on that paper and pencil.
I’ve kept one nearby out of necessity because I can’t remember a darn thing
Thanks for coming by and subscribing, Carl. I’m on your feed as well.
