The Blogging Life – “ Reaching For the Next Level

By

Most newbie bloggers start off with a ton of enthusiasm and can hardly wait to get back to the keyboard to write another post. This goes on for a period of months and then suddenly, it occurs to them that their blog has just not grown as expected. I’ve been there as well. Traffic levels remain low and the readership is just not moving upward.

That simply means that it is time for some serious re-evaluation of the effort and direction in which you are heading. The cold hard facts may well be that people are just not interested in what you are blogging about or how you are presenting the content.

Hey, it happens!

But fear not as all is not lost. Evaluate what you are doing and be honest with yourself. Ask yourself the following questions;

  • Is your message clear and understandable?

Read your post before publishing, walk away and come back later to read it again. Now consider your audience’s viewpoint. Will they know what you’re talking about? If you are unsure of this answer, you may need to make some adjustments to the content.

  • Are your posts easy to read and digest?

Everything on the internet moves in blazing speeds and your readers are simply not going to hang around trying to decipher your content. Most internet users have become accustomed to scanning articles, so keep paragraphs and words short.

  • Do you really know who your audience is?

Blog posts are written with a particular group of people in mind. Don’t try to write for any and everyone who may come by your site, that’s just too broad.

  • Do you use too many long fancy words that cause people to think about their meaning?

Trying to sound like your college physics professor is a definite turn-off. You must write like you’re having a conversation. Instead of “my level of anger is rising” just say it… “I’m gettin pissed”.

  • Have you found your true voice?

Basically, this means to write like you speak. Okay, maybe a little polish may be needed here and there, but you should be very comfortable while writing.  Don’t stop at every other word and try to figure out how to say it another way.

  • Have you looked at the larger picture?

Where do you see this thing going in the months, and hopefully years to come? You must have a long-term goal, and believe me; nothing is short and fast when it comes to blogging. Success will not arrive overnight.

  • Are you consistent?

This is a key element to building an audience. You must establish a posting schedule and stick with it. If you can only post 3 times weekly, then do that. Your best results will come from writing 5 to 6 post each and every week.

Whatever you establish is what your readers will come to expect, so deliver on a consistent basis.

You see, if you are looking for that kicker, that one thing that will take you to the next level of blogging, you’ll have to make some adjustments along the way.

There is no one simple solution to becoming a top-notch blogger because of all the variables associated with each type of blog and audience.

Find some other blogs in your area of expertise and see what the successful ones are doing. Associate with other bloggers, you can learn a lot collectively as opposed to going it alone.

Just stay true to your goals and continue to reach for the next level, but be flexible enough to adjust your strategy as you continue the journey.
