Blog Spammers – The Gang’s All Here

By Jimi Jones

Blog owners all over the internet have experienced the huge problem that is spam. So much so, that WordPress plugins like Akismet and Bad Behavior were developed specifically to handle this problem.

Comment and trackback spam can be an overwhelming maintenance issue and without  a tool , you’ll likely spend as much time deleting spam as developing content, a situation nobody wants to be forced to deal with.

The number of spam operations continues to grow as the battle for page rank rages on. It’s all about the links for them and some are very sophisticated.

There are millions of blogs in cyberspace and many of these are spam blogs whose purpose is to steal your content and use it on their site. Often times these spam blogs will have no original content at all.

One tactic is to snatch content from numerous sources and weave it together, giving the look of a legitimate site but a closer look reveals that the content makes no sense, just paragraphs thrown together.

This is out and out thievery, on the rise and likely to continue for as long as there is an internet. Much like viruses, they’re here to stay.

Here is a very valuable article by Lorelle, loaded with resources on what you can do if someone steals your content.
