What Motivates You to Blog?

By Jimi Jones

Millions and millions of blogs have been started over the past several years as this new and trendy thing to do has gained in popularity. These new channels of online communication have served many people for many reasons.

What motivates you to blog? Is it the instant connection to libraries of valuable content and information or is it the social connection to the masses?

The reasons are really too numerous to list here, but what’s really important is the passion you bring to blogging. You should feel a yearning to get to your blog and produce more content for your chosen niche.

Personally, I really enjoy blogging about a variety of subjects, not the least of which are technology and internet marketing. The success stories you see across the internet are stories that anyone can write, once you’ve positioned yourself to experience success on a highly professional level. The bloggers who have reached the pro level had to have started somewhere right?

I’ll tell you right now, straight up, I’m blogging for profit and there is no doubt about it. My motivation is to learn as much as I possibly can about the entire blogging industry, produce my own information products and assist others who would like to follow a similar path.

This is why Pro Bloggers like David Risley and Yaro Starak are key to my development. These guys have already travelled the path, so why should I be stumbling around trying to find my way when I can learn from them? After all, they are more than willing to help you become successful, sharing their knowledge and expertise along the way.

But regardless of your motivation, there are key elements that you must quickly master to become successful as a blogger. First among these is to be yourself. You’ll never make it trying to be someone or something that you are not.

Establish a long-term goal so you have an accomplishment to reach. Establish short-term goals that serve as steps toward the ultimate goal.

I think that any blog, regardless of the subject matter or niche, will benefit from the owner treating it like a business. This provides a serious approach to what you are attempting to present to the rest of the online world. Businesses have regular hours and activities, and blogging requires the same. This is true whether you are blogging for profit or not.

Many blogs will start out as for-profit, but end up being non-profit. This is what happens when you fail to approach this seriously.  The lack of planning and discipline will land you in frustration city, when nothing positive seems to be on the horizon after many months of blogging.

You’ll be like millions of others who say “you can’t make any serious money blogging”. But how can you expect to make serious money without a serious approach?

Have you noticed how when you tell someone that you are a blogger, most seem to have this impression that you are just a glorified surfer, spending a lot of time online hanging out? Or they just seem to accept it as your “hobby”.

Hobby hell, I am working when producing content or studying materials that will make me better at what I have become. I buy memory and microphones now instead of Blu-ray movies and Playstation simulations. This is serious stuff.

Becoming a Pro Blogger will change your life. This is not a fit-it-in type of deal, at least not for me. It’s my passion, my motivation to become one of the very best in a field of plenty.

The commitment is heavy if you want to own a popular, high-traffic and yes, profitable blog someday. Every blogger wants more than the family reading their posts. In fact, many family members won’t read your posts anyhow because they think you are just wasting your time with the latest internet fad.

Think of your online dreams and what you would really like to accomplish. Allow this to serve as your motivation, your reason for being (online) and what drives you to continue toward that goal.

Blogging is hard work and requires plenty of effort. Hours fly by for me when working on the many aspects of my blogging career. I don’t mind because I continue to build upon what I have learned along the way.

Find what motivates you and develop a very serious approach to blogging (if you have not already).
