The Difference Between Failure and Success

By Jimi Jones

There is a certain psychology to success and failure which seems rather apparent to me. Now I’m no Psychologist, in fact, I’ve been told that I need to see somebody myself. :-)

But really, what separates the two? Can it all be chalked up to happenstance or is there really something else behind the curtain? Perhaps it is just your mindset or a particular set of personality traits that will carry you through.

Somewhere along my life’s journey I heard someone say, “if you think you can’t do it, you’re probably right” and to this day, that has always stuck with me because it is the absolute truth. You see the confident people charge ahead to success, while the self-doubters struggle, first with themselves, then with distractions in their lives. I think that those who have achieved success realized somewhere along the way that they could really do what they set out to do.

Whatever the mindset or psychology, it applies to just about everything in life. For me, it just boils down to a want. If you want something to a degree where it is all you think about, you will most likely be driven to find a way to make it happen. It’s that “gotta have it” moment that comes over you, making you lock onto the target like a laser. When you think about the benefits that await you once you achieve your goal, you’re highly motivated to make things happen and nothing will get in your way.

Sometimes we get distracted by, well, life. Yeah, life happens and gets in the way of your goals. This is when we place what we really want on the back burner. Man, the times I’ve done that and wish I hadn’t. Sooner or later you will come to realize that the time has come to keep cooking on the front burner if you are to ever reach that goal of yours. Tough decisions will have to be made to keep distractions off the radar and some old pals may be a little put off but that’s just how it is.

The highly successful business men and women of the world probably have a laser-like focus on what they want to accomplish and while I’ve not joined that club just yet, I do understand this thinking completely. It’s the only way to get to where you want to be. Stay on-point and keep moving forward because this is the difference between those who succeed and those who fail. Successful people are absolutely driven, living and breathing their chosen goal. Nothing can deter them from working toward that end.

If you haven’t already, you’ll reach that point in your life where you’ll refuse to let anything get in the way of what you are going to accomplish. The laser-lock will be on and that’s just the way it’ll be. Sure, it means changing some things in life so that you have more time to pursue your goal, but this is how it’s done. Failure is no longer an option and can only occur if you stop moving toward your destination.

Successful people have persistence, self esteem and a passion for what they want to accomplish and they will not be distracted from their mission. These are the traits that determine who succeeds and who fails. That’s the difference. The good news is YOU are the decision maker in this entire process. So what are you waiting for?

Find your groove and stay on target, you’ll wonder what took you so long.
